About

The ideas and thoughts behind my work go through a number of iterations. Sometimes the work is about one thing and then I will see something that seems to relate to the work, and I will start to think about that in relationship to my work as well. It might take on a significant amount of meaning for me, or it may just be something that passes. Thoughts that have influenced my current paintings are things like; skin as atmosphere, skin as landscape, clothing as horizon lines, the idea that perspective can drastically alter the way we understand something. In fact perspective seems to be one of the dominant ideas in my work. Sidewalks with spots of gum. Borders, edges, where something starts and stops, how close do you have to be to see the transition, is there a transition? How does being really far away from something affect borders and edges?

My drawings ask similar questions, but they have to do with the infinitely small. I am starting to delve into the idea of string theory, and M theory, not as a scientist but as an artist. The idea that something can be infinitely small fascinates me, and again becomes a matter of perspective.

All of my work addresses the idea of making marks, layers and layers of marks, or marks that by their existence in connection with other marks create something new. Something unseen. In a way they are measurements of time. Time also fascinates me.
